Man Shoots Into Crowd At Party

SHERIFF’S HOMICIDE DETECTIVES ARE CONTINUING THEIR INVESTIGATION INTO THE CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING THE SHOOTING DEATH OF A MAN AND THE WOUNDING OF ANOTHER MAN. THE SHOOTING OCCURRED ON MARCH 4, 2007 AT APPROXIMATELY 1:26 A.M., IN THE 1200 BLOCK OF WEST 90TH STREET, ATHENS.

DETECTIVES HAVE LEARNED THAT A MALE HISPANIC ADULT SHOT SEVERAL ROUNDS INTO A CROWD OF  PEOPLE WHO WERE ATTENDING A PARTY AT THE LOCATION.  ONE VICTIM, A MALE HISPANIC ADULT WAS SHOT IN THE BACK.  THE SUSPECT THEN WALKED UP TO ANOTHER VICTIM A MALE HISPANIC ADULT AND SHOT HIM SEVERAL TIMES IN THE UPPER TORSO.  THE SUSPECT FLED IN AN UNKNOWN DIRECTION.

THE VICTIM, WHO WAS SHOT IN THE BACK,  WAS TRANSPORTED TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL, WHERE HE WAS LISTED IN CRITICAL CONDITION.  THE SECOND VICTIM, WAS TRANSPORTED TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL, WHERE HE WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD.

DETECTIVES HAVE IDENTIFIED THE SHOOTING VICTIM AS RUBEN RODRIGUEZ, A 20-YEAR-OLD HISPANIC MAN.  THREE OTHER ADULT HISPANIC MEN WERE WOUNDED BY GUNFIRE AND ARE BEING TREATED AT LOCAL HOSPITALS.

THE MOTIVE APPEARS TO BE AN ARGUMENT THAT OCCURRED AT THE RESIDENCE WHILE ATTENDING A PARTY. 

THE INCIDENT IS BEING INVESTIGATED AS A GANG RELATED SHOOTING.

THERE ARE NO FURTHER DETAILS AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.
